SEEKING 60 second sound works and 60 second videos from composers and artists
living and/or working in the New England states, USA: CT, RI, MA, NH, VT & ME. (ONLY)

project description: "Then, what if? 60 x 60 x 60"
conceptual focus: an exploration of intentionality and randomness
60 sound pieces and 60 videos will be selected from the call for entries. They will be subject to random and/or intentional pairings for public presentation in a variety of venues. A new web page will be constructed using these works. The web interface will allow visitors to randomly pair sound pieces and videos to create a wide array of juxtapositions and experiences of this collection of sound and image (3600 potential pairings). Additionally, visitors will have the choice to hear/view selected works independently with links to producers. See the existing page from the first call in 2009:

sound guidelines:
content: there are no stylistic preferences. we want to encourage submission of electronic music of all genres, sound or noise pieces,
field recordings, deconstructions, reconstructions, text works, spoken word, combinations of all of the above etc. and new works produced specifically for this project.
duration: submitted works must be 60 seconds or less - works that are under 60 seconds should be surrounded by silence -
on either or both the beginning and end - so that the total duration is exactly 60 seconds.
file formats: submissions must be AIF (16bit / 44.1K) ONLY. [no AAC, CAF, WAV, mp3, etc.]

video guidelines:
content: there are no stylistic preferences. we want to encourage submission of silent video works of all genres and new works produced specifically for this project.
duration: submitted works must be 60 seconds or less of silent video: no titles or credits.
(However, works can contain text-on-screen as part of the content.)
Works that are under 60 seconds should be surrounded by black or white - at the head or tail - so that the total duration is
exactly 60 seconds.
file formats: submissions must be Quicktime files:
EITHER HD compressed OR full-frame DV NTSC [NO PAL, NO DVDs]

sound : 1) AIF (16bit / 44.1K)

video : 1) an email with URL for Quicktime download

Works are being sought from composers and artists living and/or working in the New England states in the USA: CT, RI, MA, NH, VT & ME - ONLY.
submissions not complying with file specifications will not be reviewed for this project.
UP TO THREE SUBMISSIONS ARE ACCEPTABLE
In order to promote a direct experience of the work itself, we are not accepting program notes.

NOTE: IF YOU WERE IN THE FIRST PROJECT, "What If?", we ask three things of you:
1) invite another producer to submit a work and
2) send us another piece! (only if you are still situated in New England) and
3) donate $10 to cover the cost of the project thus far (DVD's, posters, mailings, labor, web programmer's fee,…).
This is not an entry fee
, it's a donation for those who know the work we have done on the first project.
But, feel free to donate....
These donations will go directly to support the next project as well.
